It is in our power to severely influence how soon the world will go vegan. It will be based on the dedication, diligence, and sacrifices that we are willing to make in the pursuit of this noblest of causes. The only weakness of the vegan cause is that those most directly affected by the violence are unable to truly fight back. They do not speak our languages and cannot give speeches, write essays or stand-up to their oppressors through rebellion (aside from the occasional escape). It is a social justice movement based on empathy and a love of justice by humans with no financial, political or other benefit to those who fight in this struggle for animal rights. We do what is right because it is right. We fight for unnamed billions who we will never know and that will never know us. And yet, we fight with a dedication that would rival the passions held by any historical social justice movement. And, I believe that this stems from asking ourselves one central question, "Were it me, what would I have them do to free me were our positions reversed?" The mother pig in the gestation crate, the hen cramped so tightly she can't move her wings, the mother cow screaming out for her baby as he is dragged away, and the fish gasping for oxygen after being pulled from the ocean.... we put ourselves into their position and ask, what would I have others do for me if I were in their place.
This is why fight. This is why we cannot fail. And this is why we must push ourselves to be better and more effective everyday.
We will win! And that day is coming soon. Ecrasez l'infame!
